Technical School Spot a Position

From 16 colleges, Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), the country’s biggest university when it comes to population, added a new college in the form of PUP Technical School.
The erstwhile technical school is now known as the College of Technology (CT).
With the approval of the PUP Board of Regents (PUP-BOR), it has been elevated to a full-fledged college status. The PUP-CT is now the University's 17th college.
The University Academic Council first gave its nod for the technical school's conversion into a college when its director, Dr. Mely M. Padilla, presented the proposal, together with the college's offerings of at least six diploma programs with three-year curriculum.
Dr. Padilla successfully persuaded the council after convincing the members that PUP can better serve a greater number of people if the technical school would be converted into a college.
The six short courses approved by the University board during its meeting on December 7 were the Information Communication Management Technology (ICMT); Computer Engineering Management Technology (CEMT); Electrical Engineering Management Technology (EEMT); Mechanical Engineering Management Technology (MEMT); and Electronics Communications Engineering Management (ECEM).
During the said academic meeting, Vice President for Student Services Juan C. Birion said that students who intend to enroll in the CT need not take the PUP College Entrance Test (PUPCET). They should, instead take the PUP Scholastic Aptitude Test (PUPSAT).
"The PUPSAT is intended to find out the potential skills of the applicants to help them choose the field where they can excel," Dr. Birion further explained.
University Registrar Melba D. Abaleta also pointed out that student applicants who have passed the PUPCET can enroll in any of the University's 53 college course offerings, but the PUPSAT passers can only be admitted in the College of Technology.
The PUP's newest college is now housed at the NDC compound with its newly constructed three-story building.
