8th National Convention of the Association of Administrators in Hospitality Held

Dr Ruiz, PUP's Director of Curriculum Planning and Development, talked about writing a book during the 8th National Convention of the Association of Administrators in Hospitality. held at Hotel & Restaurant Management Educational Institutions (AAHRMEI), discussed "Adventures in Book Writing: A Challenge to Administrators" at the SMX Conference Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City on December 4-5, 2008.

Another important figure present during the convention is Senate Majority Floor Leader, Hon. Francis Pangilinan, who was the keynote speaker in the said convention.

He talked on the theme "Great at 8: Celebrating Diversity in the Multi-Dimension of Hospitality Education."

The topics
discussed on the said convention are the innovative courses in the Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) program as well as CHED's 5-year projection for the hospitality and tourism industry, the status and prospects of TESDA's ladderized program, international practicum and placement opportunities, book writing and the development of instructional materials, security and safety awareness in the workplace, in-flight catering, regional culinary and "life after academe and were conducted by experts.

The AAHRMEI Convention was attended by 200 deans and heads of hospitality, tourism and allied courses from all over the country. This gathering hoped to take further steps towards betterment and advancement of hospitality education to ensureglobal competitiveness.

Director Jamorabo-Ruiz served as dean of three different colleges in PUP: Hotel & Restaurant Management, Nutrition & Food Science and the College of Science. She is an accomplished writer; having authored, co-authored and edited 15 nationally published textbooks and written 50 scientific and technical articles including her researches in the field of nutrition education, wellness, health education, food science and hospitality education. She is also a member of the University Textbooks and Instructional Materials Evaluation Committee (UTIMEC) which evalutates books for university-wide adoption as textbooks and references.
